hi!! I absolutely love your books! I have been following them for years! When will the next book be coming out? We've been holding this cliff-hanger for two years... please let it be soon :)
Love your books! When will a new book be out?
| |
I really love your Melanie Travis mysteries and am eagerly awaiting the release of your next book. Do you know what the title of it will be and when it will be released?
| |
Well, Ilka and I had our first class of doggy school last night, and I have discovered that I don't have enough hands. Between holding on to the leash, the treats, and the clicker, it is harder than it looks.
| |
Well, it seems that I have a new puppy after all. Just not a Standard Poodle, Doberman Pinscher, Ibizan Hound, or any other breed that I admire and would like to have. The best we can figure out is Labrador Retreiver, maybe Border Collie, a touch of Ameican Pit Bull Terrier, with possibly just a dash of German Sheperd.

Salli Buttles (Clifton Park, NY) No, no, no......I was just getting together my summer reading books and decided to check on my favorite series/author for the nest book. How sad,,,my late husband was the original "Dog Whisperer"...he was a magnet for lost dogs and strays. Reading your series has been a trip down memory lane with him.....Will just have to start over and re-read as I have them all. God bless you and I'll be praying that something will happen to continue your wonderful series and talent. Thanks so much for giving me hours of pleasure.
Hi , Me. Berenson, I've just discovered your Melanie Traavis Mystery books. I have found 12 so far, but seem to have at least 3 missing. Underdog, Dog eat Dog,& Hair of the Dog. Do you knoe where these can be found? I've gotten them all from Amazon, but they don't seem to have these. Also, are ther more then 15 boks?? Thanks Darla
Please allow me to praise your work. It is a pleasure to savor Doggie Day Care Murder. I have completed your series now. Sadly, might I suggest a blog or pubilshing thru google? Thank you for all the Joy you have personally provided me. In admiration, Cyndy Hartline
Marci (Loma. CO) You are my favorite..NO NO YOU CAN'T QUIT! Surely there is another publisher. I am an avid dog show competitor, owning several top winning dogs, your books keep me at the show when I must be home. You are superb!!
Have loved your bokks since the begining, got me going to dog shows! Will miss you, a curse on the publisher who dropped you! Thanks for the wonderful mysteries!
I was on your website looking for your next Melanie Travis book...only to be quite disappointed in the news that the series has ended.
I am not being critical, but want to point out that by getting the books at the library and used book stores, the author is not getting the sales she needs to convince the publisher how popular the books are. I do know with the economy that it is hard to find money for new hardcover books. But just wanted to point that out. I am not an acquaintance of the author tho we happen to live in the same town--I am just disappointed there won't be any more Dog books--which I loved.
Redd (Michigan) I to just found your books at the library, only to find out there won't be any more. I don't show dogs any more and found that I could get my show groove on through U.
Well, I guess that the people advertising Standard Poodle puppies on our local community website didn't want to sell me a puppy. They never responded to my email asking about health testing on the parents. It's too bad, especially as they had chocolate browns, my favorite color, and the price was something I could afford. Oh well, it's not like I really need another commitment. Eight cats (one of them a 16 year old geriatric case), a dog, a bird and two autistic kids is enough for now.

Christine P. (New Cumberland, PA) I JUST found this series in the library in which I work. I was so excited - for me, it's like finding the Cat Who's for DOG people! I've only read one so far but look forward to reading the rest! I play agility and flyball with my dogs and teach agility on weekends at a training center in Carlisle. I love mysteries and I love dogs and it's great to read fiction that captures both! Kudos to you and thank you!
Sharon Clarke (Georgia) I just found your Melanie series and have read all in my branch and asked for all in the rest of our library system except Dog Eat Dog -which they do not seem to have-I'll try the used book store for that. I love the series - have had toy and miniature poodles and now have a Dachshund puppy - we are going to obedience school soon. Please find another publisher and keep writing your series. Thanks for many hours of pleasure.
Have you ever considered writing a children's book about Davey's adventures as a junior handler?
| |
Chalk me up as another very disappointed reader. I've enjoyed the Melanie Travis series since the first book and I look forward every year to a new one. I hate that Kensington is dropping your series. It seems that so many of my favorite series are being dropped, either by the publisher or because the writer decided to stop. I'm with the earlier poster re ghost series (and also Vampire, Werewolf, Witch, etc.). Can't stand them. I like the cozy mysteries. I've particularly enjoyed yours because I breed and show cats, and I find it funny how much the Cat and Dog Fancies are alike. I see so many of my fellow cat fanciers in your dog fanciers. I hope that you find a new publisher or decide, as another poster suggested, to self-publish as e-books. In the meantime, thank you for many hours of reading pleasure.
Heather W (Virginia) I started following the Melanie Travis series years ago with the first book. Now, my fourteen year old daughter reads them too. We own every one of them. I truly hope there will be more. I go back and re-read them whenever I need to take my mind of things. Thanks for being so clever.
I am sorry to hear your series have ended (as least for now, as I never say never). I am not a dog person (the closest I have come to a pet was when I travelled through Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, Utah and back to Nevada with a tomato plant in a pot a couple of years ago), but I have really enjoyed the series. I wish you the best in whatever you do next.
Sarah (Chicago) Dear Laurien (I hope you don't mind my familiarity),
| |
Gabi (Colorado Springs, CO) OH NO! I just visited your website to find out when #16 of the Melanie Travis series will be published. I was very surprised and saddened to read that you have decided not to continue this wonderful series. As a dog lover (we have two rescue dogs in our household), I have thoroughly enjoyed every single book; I appreciate how you accurately capture the personalities of the different breeds. I do hope you can and will reconsider this decision. It would be a great loss not to see this great series continued.
June (Merritt BC) Dear Ms Berenson,
| |
My heart is broken to read that Doggie Daycare is the last book and there will be no more Melaine Traver's mysteries! I love this series and have read every book in the series. I do hope you are picked up by another publisher soon and we will once again Melanie & Aunt Peg along with the rest of the crew!
So disappointed to learn some months back that there would be no more "Melanie" with her poodle entourage. Read most of the series but the library didn't purchase several titles ...everyone's loss! I didn't know about your publisher. I'm sure as other readers have said that there is someone out there; some authors self-publish! Good Luck!
Gee, Like the others I came to find out about your new book. And I just sent the 1st one to a friend to get her started on the series. As a librarian, I know that publishers are "hard" on authors. Wish that I had let you know earlier how much I enjoyed your books. You almost make me want to have a standard poodle (my Golden, Collie, & Sheltie disagree). Thank you for giving much pleasure & may your future endeavors be fruitful.
Ann Baumgardt (Scotts Mills, OR) Hi Laurien: I'm sure you hear this a lot, but I've thoroughly enjoyed your Melanie Travis mysteries. When I read about the poodles and their charming antics, they make me think of a canine cross between a black lab and a golden retriever. The big poodle seems to have the gentle sweetness & slight goofiness of the golden combined with the active and fun loving (and sometimes hyperactive) black lab.
I too am disappointed, but I am sure you have your reasons for not continuing the Melanie Travis series. I do have them all and now my 15 year old daughter is reading them. We both show dogs in conformation and we felt a kindred spirit with you or should I say Melanie!!! Good Luck in your endeavors.
| |
Tammy (Michigan) Oh Laurien, I'm so disappointed. I got several of your books for Christmas and am hooked. My husband and I have been showing dogs for years, each and every character in your books relates to someone we've either met or heard stories about. Aunt Peg IS my mother in law, who passed away a few years ago. The only difference is that she had Miniature Poodles and wasn't a judge.
| |
I am so disappointed that from I have read that there will not be another Melanie Travis book. I have read all of them and anxiously looked forward to the next. I was there with Melanie in life, love and danger and not many authors can create that in their writings. A very sad day........
NOOO tell me it is not so. I came here to find out the title of the next book and when it would be released. I started with the first book and inter library loaned as our local library is small. To be able to read all the books in the series. I am sad this day. Seems like I lost part of my family.
From the various posts I've read, it seems that you have a lot more Melanie Travis tales (or is it tails?)to tell. Even though Kensington has said "no, thank you", there are many small publishing houses that would probably pounce on the opportunity. I know that Amazon.com does advance sales. If you could find a small publisher and a number of us pre-paid for a book(s), would it be a viable entity then?
| |
Kathy (Binghamton, NY) I cannot believe that Doggy Day Care ends the Melanie Travis series. I loved these books and have every one of them. Best of luck to you in whatever your next endeavor will be.
Dear Laurien,
| |
I am disappointed that there will be no more books. I am a special ed teacher and train and show dogs on the weekends in obed. rally, and agility. I really connected with Melanie. I take your books to dog shows to read while waiting for my class to start. I guess I will start reading the whole series over again. One more book would be great.
What an absolute shame the Melanie Travis series has ended.
| |
Hi, I wrote you a while ago. Very sad you are not continueing the sereies. Last night while at the library I found another myetery writer and there is a dog in the story. The dog is actually telling the story. Spencer Quinn is the Author. Dog On It is the title. Hsve read this yet? Very funny from the dgos point of view. I lost my male greyhound in April and adopted a little female to go with my older female greyhound. She is a pistol. Road Sound Belle was her racing name. Take care.
Hi Laurien, i am very sad to hear that I and my friends in Australia wont have the joy of reading your books anymore. My fellow poodle lovers were thrilled to discover your book featuring the standard poodles. I lost my beloved black standard poodle 3 months ago, she was 15, the lady that breed her is just like Aunt Peg.I feel a strange connection to your characters and the love of the poodle. All the people at our club 'Oodles of Poodles'will really miss your wonderful books. best wishes Sharon
| |
Hi Laurien. I'm so sorry to hear that the Melanie books are ending. A friend Saundra and I share books and were eagerly awaiting the next Poodle book. You are a wonderful author, and we will miss Melanie, Aunt Peg, Faith and Eve and 'the gang'. I don't know if you are willing to continue the series, but if so here's hoping the publishers will support that as much as your faithful (pun intended) readers would. Wishing you all the best.
Laurien, I would just like to tell you that I work in a used bookstore and mysteries, especially cozies are the biggest sellers lately. People are getting tired of all the blood and violence in the thriller/mysteries and are turning to your kind of books. Your publishers must not be looking at the reading base of those over 35. We can't keep your books in stock! Good luck.
Hi Laurien,
| |
For the last several years, I have begun my September with a new book from Laurien Berenson. Even when I was a poor grad student, it was a priority to buy these books - in hardcover. After 8 weeks of checking Amazon.com and Borders, I arrived here to read the sad news. I will also write the publisher.
The first book I've read of yours is Doggie Day Care Murder and I loved it so much that I have to go back and read from the very beginning. I hope that I can get them all but they are really good and easy to read.
| |
Kathleen (Sacto, CA) This news is just so disappointing. Would Kennsington consider passing on the hardbacks & go right to paperback if money is the issue? It's certainly not the quality of writing, it's the lack of advertising of how enjoyable this series is! The reviews are always complimentary so I'm baffled.
| |
Hi Laurien,
| |
This is my second post.....but I keep coming back every few weeks hoping that news of more upcoming Melanie Travis books will be on the way. I looked forward to them very much. I'm hooked on standards -- I just love them. I am 55 and never grew up with dogs. I got my first standard in '97 and was hooked. I was devasted when I she was gone -- but so grateful to a breeder-friend who gave us a five year old that needed a home. A perfect match -- I need her and she needed me -- I call her my velcro dog -- goes with me where-ever I go.
| |
Dear Laurien,
| |
LAURIEN BERENSON Hi Everyone,
| |
Hi Laurien,
| |
Noooo! I can't believe my favorite series is ending. I do hope that another publisher picks you up. It seems the "hot ticket" books now are ghost stories. I can't stand them. Even though I love all animals, I can't stand the talking cat type book either.
| |
Laurien,
| |
I can't believe there aren't any more Melanie books. I want to see Davey grow up and show dogs and I love Faith and Eve and Aunt Peg and Sam. I'm devastated!!
Valerie Taylor (Chattanooga, TN) I've been reading the poodle series since a gal at a recent AKC show told me about the books! I love them. I am on my 3rd book, and look forward to reading them all.
| |
Melanie, I am so so sorry to see that Kensington has dropped your books. I'm another one who has them all in hardback, and I've been looking for the next one. I hope that even if the Melanie Travis books are on hiatus (I fiercely hope that's all it is!), you'll come up with another series idea. I'll bet Berkley Prime Crime would be interested in a kennel series...!
